SK #CAPE Heads Up! (M)
Bearing burdens on the top of the head is a practice in use since ancient times, and common in many parts of the developing world. While the load can reach up to 70% of the carrier's body weight, it is often much less. Textile Designer Suneetha/Bhaavana uses techniques of fabric origami, doll making, embroidery, and beadwork to depict a woman carrying a basket of flowers to the market. Showcased in folds of Thai silk, the scene is complemented with American jewelry artist Ronda Terry's kiln-fired dichroic glass button.
