Susie And The Black Swirly Coat Jacket Front

The Legend

SUSIE AND THE BLACK SWIRLY COAT

Susie had made ever-so-many trips to London, same-old-same-old, and was falling prey to the dreaded “Ho-Hum” drag. What to do, what to do?! Enter swirly black coat and even a trip to the neighborhood chemist became an event, let alone nights at the theater and the latest and greatest awesomacious nightspots. And swirly and black is just the beginning, for each twirl and whirl reveals Textile Designer Suneetha/Bhaavana’s totally-cool colorclash masterpiece of stump work, embroidery and beadwork punctuated with swinging tassels of beads and birds. But wait — jewelry designer Ronda Terry’s “it” button of carved stone, filigree work, and semi-precious stones is the crowning glory. And just like THAT, Susie turned her “Ho-Hum’s” into “Hi-Ho’s”!

Susan Hollingsworth

Susan Hollingsworth has always had a knack for storytelling. Her years spent living in countries from Europe to Asia introduced her to the ancient practice of fiber art and the techniques that women used to create visual stories – with thread and fabric – passed down to them from their ancestors. During a stint in London, she studied pattern making from the Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, which became the catalyst for SuKaz jackets. Rather than pen and paper, Susan designs wearable pieces of art, each one telling a unique story through the hands of skilled artisans from cultures around the globe.

Ronda Terry

Multi- talented jewelry artist Ronda Terry works magic in her Michigan studio, conjuring delicacy and beauty from bits of rough metal, raw gemstones, and broken glass. Each of her exquisite creations is forged using caustic chemicals, 1500 degree heat, and a master’s hand. Ronda fashions a range of jewelry, dichroic glass tile, and buttons using techniques of kiln firing, enameling, casting and etching. And each brings its own brand of magic to a Sukaz jacket.
