The Legend

PUSHKAR KA MELA, SHORT JACKET

Pushkar ka Mela, in the Indian state of Rajasthan, is the annual celebration of all things camel. For a magical five days a gathering of 50,000 camels are bought, sold, raced, paraded, and led to dance by their handlers. Textile designer Suneetha/Bhaavana brings this bustling scene to brilliant life with skillful renderings in appliqué, embroidery, passamentrie, and beadwork. Completed in Chinese silk brocade, the jacket is finished with jewelry artist Ronda Terry’s kiln-fired button of enameled metal discs bound with a semi-precious stone.

A Cavorting Caravan Of Capricious Camels Captivates The Clamoring Crowd . . .

Susan Hollingsworth

Susan Hollingsworth has always had a knack for storytelling. Her years spent living in countries from Europe to Asia introduced her to the ancient practice of fiber art and the techniques that women used to create visual stories – with thread and fabric – passed down to them from their ancestors. During a stint in London, she studied pattern making from the Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, which became the catalyst for SuKaz jackets. Rather than pen and paper, Susan designs wearable pieces of art, each one telling a unique story through the hands of skilled artisans from cultures around the globe.

Ronda Terry SuKaz fiber jacket artist, Pushkar Ka Mela Button Collage

Ronda Terry

Multi- talented jewelry artist Ronda Terry works magic in her Michigan studio, conjuring delicacy and beauty from bits of rough metal, raw gemstones, and broken glass. Each of her exquisite creations is forged using caustic chemicals, 1500 degree heat, and a master’s hand. Ronda fashions a range of jewelry, dichroic glass tile, and buttons using techniques of kiln firing, enameling, casting and etching. And each brings its own brand of magic to a Sukaz jacket.
