The Legend

YOU ARE THE BEAT OF MY HEART

Color variations in the hydrangea blossom are rooted in the acidity of the soil they are planted in – higher acidity yields blue to purple blooms, while more alkaline soil produces pink to mauve shades. The popularity of the pink blossom has risen the world over in recent years, particularly in Asia where the Asian florist Tan Jun Yong is quoted as saying “The size and color of the blossom match the heart of the recipient.” Textile Designer Suneetha/Bhaavana’ s presentation of the pink hydrangea is a masterpiece of silk flower origami, bead work and passementerie, the tassels chiming the softest best of the heart. Her creation is showcased in swirls of darkest midnight, while jewelry artist Ronda Terry’s kiln-forged button of enameled copper discs adds the perfect finishing touch.

Susan Hollingsworth

Susan Hollingsworth has always had a knack for storytelling. Her years spent living in countries from Europe to Asia introduced her to the ancient practice of fiber art and the techniques that women used to create visual stories – with thread and fabric – passed down to them from their ancestors. During a stint in London, she studied pattern making from the Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, which became the catalyst for SuKaz jackets. Rather than pen and paper, Susan designs wearable pieces of art, each one telling a unique story through the hands of skilled artisans from cultures around the globe.
