Nature's Gold Jacket Fullbody

The Legend

Nature’s Gold

The beauty in nature is not found in symmetry of form or coordination of theme, but rather in the complete lack of harmony and regularity in both color and scale. The chaos in nature is its most harmonious trait and most valuable asset. Textile artist Sue Forey has captured this chaotic accord in bold relief in her beautifully contrasted presentation of felted flowers and butterflies against a stormy field of midnight and violet. This bounty of nature is showcased in gold-washed folds of fabric, and completed by jewelry artist Ronda Terry’s bejeweled button of hand-forged enameled copper discs.

Susan Hollingsworth

Susan Hollingsworth has always had a knack for storytelling. Her years spent living in countries from Europe to Asia introduced her to the ancient practice of fiber art and the techniques that women used to create visual stories – with thread and fabric – passed down to them from their ancestors. During a stint in London, she studied pattern making from the Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, which became the catalyst for SuKaz jackets. Rather than pen and paper, Susan designs wearable pieces of art, each one telling a unique story through the hands of skilled artisans from cultures around the globe.

Sue Forey

Sue lives in the beautiful area of West Wales on a smallholding nestled between the Cambrian mountains and the sea. She has always had an affinity with textiles but began working with felt 14 years ago. The process of wet felting is an ancient, almost magical process where sheep’s fleece can be turned in to a strong fabric just by using soap, water and one’s own hands. It is an extremely versatile medium and can be made in to a flat fabric or three dimensional sculptural forms. Sue enjoys embellishing the felt with silk fibres which are embedded in the felt itself and often adds embroidery
for further texture and decoration. Her inspiration comes from the landscape and rural way of life around her.

Ronda Terry

Multi- talented jewelry artist Ronda Terry works magic in her Michigan studio, conjuring delicacy and beauty from bits of rough metal, raw gemstones, and broken glass. Each of her exquisite creations is forged using caustic chemicals, 1500 degree heat, and a master’s hand. Ronda fashions a range of jewelry, dichroic glass tile, and buttons using techniques of kiln firing, enameling, casting and etching. And each brings its own brand of magic to a Sukaz jacket.
