The Legend

FLUTTERING FAR AFIELD

Butterflies take wing above a gold-tipped meadow, lighting on a riot of blooms. Indian Textile Designer Suneetha/Bhaavana combines techniques of needle felt, ribbon work, and origami in silk in a vivid tableau of spring in fresh bloom. The flower motif is repeated in jewelry designer Ronda Terry’s jeweled button of delicate layers of enameled and kiln-fired metal discs.

Susan Hollingsworth

Susan Hollingsworth has always had a knack for storytelling. Her years spent living in countries from Europe to Asia introduced her to the ancient practice of fiber art and the techniques that women used to create visual stories – with thread and fabric – passed down to them from their ancestors. During a stint in London, she studied pattern making from the Central St. Martins College of Art and Design, which became the catalyst for SuKaz jackets. Rather than pen and paper, Susan designs wearable pieces of art, each one telling a unique story through the hands of skilled artisans from cultures around the globe.

Suneetha/Bhavaana

The Sukaz Art Panels of India include a wealth of textile art techniques evoking a brilliance of color and the depths of mystery in the Indian culture. In collaboration with Sukaz, stories are spun to vivid life by the skillful artistry of Suneetha/Bhaavana’s applique, silk origami, and needlefelt and further enhanced with touches of beading, applique, and braiding.

    Ronda Terry

Multi- talented jewelry artist Ronda Terry works magic in her Michigan studio, conjuring delicacy and beauty from bits of rough metal, raw gemstones, and broken glass. Each of her exquisite creations is forged using caustic chemicals, 1500 degree heat, and a master’s hand. Ronda fashions a range of jewelry, dichroic glass tile, and buttons using techniques of kiln firing, enameling, casting and etching. And each brings its own brand of magic to a Sukaz jacket.
